President Report 2016 from Helen Turrisi

First I would like to thank and acknowledge all the help I have received from members. Special thanks go out to Theo, Jayne, Sheryl, Louise, and Nola who have guided and helped me through the process of being involved in Borderline and attendance at our meetings with their valuable insight.

When I was voted in last year I was thrown in the deep end of opening the Borderline Exhibition Resonance on the following week after all the hard work and knowledge from the people who put the exhibition together. I hope I did it justice. It was a huge success and people are still mentioning how fantastic the standard of work was. We want it to be even better in 2017 and an exhibition that really showcases what talented artists we have at Borderline.

Sue Jurd kindly allowed Borderline members to use her work space for the Xmas get together where they all got involved with our printing press “Pricilla” (see members only area) John Donnelly and Theo Gard also were on hand to show us their skills. Sue provided the kitchen for our lunch which was helped by members bringing a plate.

In February the Artists’ Collective Studio in Tenterfield invited Borderline Members to exhibit their work. 18 members did exhibit and I would like to acknowledge the Artists’ Collective Studio. It is a wonderful supporter for our Artists and we hope to have a great ongoing relationship with them.

Borderline has established regular workshops at a token price for members to share their skills and also to gain other skills. It is proving to be a great service and members are now looking forward to the next workshops.

On a sadder note we lost one of our greats with the passing of Elspeth Cameron who was a remarkable person and generous with her time and knowledge, I know some members had long friendships with Elspeth and she is still missed.

On private note I had family health issues that have taken up large amounts of my time which I hope in the next year will become more stable.

I look forward to another great year working with Borderline members to develop ideas that will be put in motion that better our artists both creatively and financially. We all look forward to the ideas that the meetings form becoming a reality. It’s amazing what people power can achieve.
