Helen Adams

I work primarily as a hand-building ceramicist, building functional ware that is quality, and that exudes beauty and style. The creative process of hand-building to me unlocks ideas as it takes place, extending a thought into often a serendipitous outcome. I strive for quality more-so than perfection as imperfection can be the beauty – a bit of wabi-sabi. My pieces are meant to be held and used, but can also just be admired.

Starting in 2017 I attended weekly classes year-round with Kara Wood at her Tighes Hill space. Kara recognised and encouraged my interest in hand-building helping me extend my skills and ambitions. On moving to Tenterfield in northern NSW in 2022, I worked with a number of experienced potters at the Stanthorpe Pottery Club while I built up my own studio, and I attended day and weekend workshops there.

My focus is on making interesting pieces that are useful, tactile and beautiful.
