Activities

Borderline Activities

The activities initiated by the Borderline Regional Arts Association vary from year to year with a focus on community, artistic growth and exhibitions.

They include things like:

  • The organisation of workshops, with tutors who may be sourced within Borderline, or from afar.  Often these are open to the public but Borderline members will always have first option.
  • The organisation of art exhibitions. Aside from our major bi-annual exhibition in Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery (SRAG) and a regular annual exhibition at The Artists Collective Studio in Tenterfield we often have several others in the works. Keep an eye on our home page ‘What’s On’ posts for up-to-date details.
  • Public displays of art works available for sale at our Open Studio and Art Market on the first Saturday of each month in our home in the Engine Drivers Barracks in Tenterfield.
  • Community time with other Borderline Artists on the 4th Wednesday of each month at our home in the Barracks.
  • The organisation of art-related activities which involve members of the community getting their hands dirty
  • The support and encouragement of art education in our schools, through volunteer assistance with art teaching programs.
  • And more!

If you are interested in membership, you will find the current membership form in the about us page. Or to stay up to date with whats happening connect with us on facebook or Instagram.

As 2025 will bring our biennial group exhibition at Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery together with another one or two major group shows we plan for 2024 to be a chance for our members to deepen their practices and build on our workshop series with Art Camps and Play Days. • Deepwater 2023 Market

    Deepwater 2023 Market

Deepwater Art Show was back on the map this year with many of our Artists entering 1 or 2 works and most selling at least 1 piece. The exhibition itself was incredible, artists and visitors came from all over the country. We took the opportunity to set up a stall to spotlight our organisation and members.

The pieces came from our regular Open Studio and Market Day ‘box’ that we run on the 1st Saturday of the month from our home at the Barracks, in the Tenterfield Railway Museum. Each month we have a featured Artist or two. These Artists bring along a larger selection of their works and are available to talk about their own art processes as well as Borderline in general. Artists Louise Jenkins and Gay Landeta were our featured Artists at Deepwater. We had a busy – close to sell-out – day with many people loving the chance to buy works at such special prices.

We are open every month on the 1st Saturday of the month at the Tenterfield Railway Museum from 9 till noon.

22 Oct 2011 Borderline members were available at the Tenterfield Showground ‘Showing Off’ Family Fun Day to answer any queries about the presentation requirements for art work at the Tenterfield Show.  For anyone who did not attend, please make sure that any 2D artwork being entered for the show is presented ready for hanging on a hook.  It is sufficient to have a string or wire suited to the weight of the work, firmly secured across the back.  Art works need not be framed, however they must be well supported (able to withstand potential breezy gusts from nearby doors), and in the case of 2D works, well secured to their hanging device.  A work on paper for example need not be behind glass, however it must be secured to a supportive and hangable backing.  Last year the art stewards were contending with pictures which were falling out of cheap frames, or had strings attached to canvas backs with loose drawing pins.  These are unacceptable.  The next Tenterfield show is 27/28/29 January 2012.  The show schedule is not out yet, but it will reveal a revamp of entry categories in the art sections.
