My interest in working with clay began in Newcastle 10 years ago when I started to attend weekly evening ceramic workshops at Kara Woods Ceramics. I was keen to learn and develop, but I was working in demanding business roles so my skills were slow to build. After retiring I was able to head out on a road to discover what I enjoyed most, what I saw as beauty in ceramics, develop skills in hand-building and wheel-throwing and a better understanding of ceramic chemistry.

Handbuilding is my favourite method but I also like playing with thrown pieces decorating or supporting them with handmade shapes and items. I love making lidded boxes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. I am happiest when a pot comes out of the kiln and I think “yep that is beautiful”.
